Civilians made a hostage???

A bus carrying 50 people including 18 armed SPO (Special Police Officer) was blown up at about 4.15 pm on 17/ 5/ 2010 near Sukma in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh. According to news sources, it was an operation triggered by the Maoist rebels, which killed 16 SPOs and 28 civilians. The news is well known by now. An inquiry into the occurrence with an open mind gives birth to a few questions and issues …
  • Why the armed forces were traveling with unarmed civilians, which is not only unethical but also illegal according to the standard operating procedure of the Chhatisgarh Police?
  • It has become quite evident that the armed police used civilians (their fellow citizens!!!) in the most unscrupulous way as a hostage, to safeguard themselves, and thus pushed those people in the mouth of death, which according to a senior Chhattisgarh cop, is a common & widespread practice there.
  • We also do not at all rule out the possibility that the occurrence is not as “normal” as it seems. Those poor civilians were instead forcefully pushed inside the vehicle by the Chhattisgarh Police to act as a shield; to save their own lives against any apprehended rebel attack.
We strongly condemn such disgraceful act of spinelessness by the Chattisgarh Police and hold the Chhatisgarh State and Central Government entirely responsible for the same. I support your view. But I still think Maoist should have been much more merciful to those innoscent civillians.

Apart from the questions mentioned in your article, one question that has cropped up in my mind is if this so called POLICE “already” knew that “maoists DON’T attack the civilians” and that’s the reason they were traveling behind a “civilian shield”, then who attacked and brutally murdered those civilians about whom newspapers publish to denounce the “maoists”? If maoists don’t attack civilians, was it done by the state?
