I felt profoundly disappointed after watching the latest Bengali movie by Srijit Mukherjee – “Jatishwar” in which the director not only tried to prove the existence of ‘jatishwar’ ( or re incarnation/ rebirth) but that too with the help of a doctor in the movie who claims that doctors still don’t know the function of ‘pineal gland’ (if I am not wrong) in the brain and it has been sometimes seen that stimulation of that gland can lead to recollection of memories of previous birth.
Being a doctor myself, I have a very logical reason of not believing in reincarnation as when a person dies, his blood circulation stops. When blood circulation stops, the brain cells (or neurons) also die off. And neurons once dead, the memory contained in them is dead too! Then doesn’t talking about previous life’s memory storage in pineal gland, sounds so ridiculous, illogical and unscientific?
It was highly unexpected from the brain behind ‘Baishey srabon’ and ‘Autograph’ to promote such idea of reincarnation in his movie and that too with the help of doctor’s words creating a wrong impression on the minds of its viewers.
Being a follower of rationalism and as a doctor, I request all rationalists and doctors to come together and protest against this to prevent such unscientific ideas from spreading.
