jatiswar big_635212456770937500    I felt profoundly disappointed after watching the latest Bengali movie by Srijit Mukherjee – “Jatishwar” in which the director not only tried to prove the existence of ‘jatishwar’ ( or re incarnation/ rebirth) but that too with the help of a doctor in the movie who claims that doctors still don’t know the function of ‘pineal gland’ (if I am not wrong)  in the brain and it has been sometimes seen that stimulation of that gland can lead to recollection of memories of previous birth.

Being a doctor myself, I have a very logical reason of not believing in reincarnation as when a person dies, his blood circulation stops. When blood circulation stops, the brain cells (or neurons) also die off. And neurons once dead, the memory contained in them is dead too! Then doesn’t talking about previous life’s memory storage in pineal gland, sounds so ridiculous, illogical and unscientific?

It was highly unexpected from the brain behind ‘Baishey srabon’ and ‘Autograph’ to promote such idea of reincarnation in his movie and that too with the help of doctor’s words creating a wrong impression on the minds of its viewers.

Being a follower of rationalism and as a doctor, I request all rationalists and doctors to come together and protest against this to prevent such unscientific ideas from spreading.

I am neither a doctor, nor a psychologist. But studying human nature as a commoner in my long 71 years of life, I have realised that the people like and purchase more lies than the truth. They are happy to believe, enjoy and worship lies and imaginations like gods, ghosts, demons, Harry Potter Batsman, Ramchandra, Krishna, Chota Vim etc. etc. So LIES, like Jatiswar are good product to be sold easily and profitably. Country liquer, as you know, is sold more than milk, religious books are sold more than intellectual books. However such products surely corrupt the feeble fearful and immature minds and harm our human society directly or indirectly. Fantacy and fiction writers like weave many such lies, but their lies and imaginations never pose true as the dirty film does. In fact there should a law against propagating lies as true.

I had seen the movie and found it utterly pathetic & inferior. First was the ‘effort’ of Srijit to establish ‘reincarnation’. I do expect him to tutor his agnostic (!) mind through substantial research. Second, was of his glorifying Hensman Anthony (Anthony Firingee).

It is true that the idea of reincarnation is not scientifically proved.Apart from that if we try to grasp the positive ideas that have been tried to be delivered through the film then I think it would be better for all of us not to discard it completely but to take good things from it if it is there. The ideas that a foreigner can’t worship Hindu Gods and Godesses, that a man can’t marry a woman of different religion, should not be right. These kinds of ideas are still existing in our socity and I think it would be better to think freely and logically over these types of social problems. This is completely personal comment. If you don’t agree with it then don’t accept it.

    Dear Amiya Misra,

To prove the unproved idea of reincarnation is the responsibility of those who believe it and not of those who disbelieve. And so long an idea is not proved, we should discard or disbelieve it. The only good thing in the film it is a good entertainment particularly for children and the people with less intelligence. And people like me who love fantacy. They enjoy stories of Arabian Nights, Harry Potter, Batman, Spiderman, Gods Ghosts etc. etc. In the end I am sorry to inform you that I disagree with your personal comment and I advise you to disagree your own idea. If you have any trouble to quit smoking such ideas please read books on rationalism.
