About the Global Research Management Certificate

The Global Research Management (GRM) certificate is specifically designed for those working in an international research and research management context, be it as part of international research collaborations or engaging with international funders.

Developed by a team of international experts in the field, the curriculum is designed to provide RMAs with tools and insights to navigate an increasingly complex global research landscape. The certificate covers the whole research lifecycle with emphasis on aspects such as

  • Different research costing methodologies and funding strategies;
  • Utilising tools to aid managing complex, multi-partner projects;
  • Understanding and managing cultural dimensions of working across the globe,
  • Navigating complex legal and sometimes incompatible seeming governance frameworks or
  • Managing research output agendas including research impact, research data management or valorization of research outputs.

The Certificate is offered at an intermediary level. It is tailored to those that have a solid foundation in research management and administration with typically at least 5+ years of experience.

Certificate Course Requirements

Leadership is comprised of one full-day workshop, six required sessions and two elective sessions. The required courses are listed below; the electives may vary from meeting-to-meeting.

Content Level: All Levels

The role of research management in the fast-evolving global research landscape. This workshop will provide an overview of global research trends, challenges, and opportunities. Participants will explore how research management and administration roles are emerging and evolving due to changing environments and the increasing complexity of international collaborations. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the needs of decision-makers, and building equitable, sustainable international partnerships.

Learning Objectives:

Gain a comprehensive overview of the global research landscape.

  • Understand the drivers and barriers to international research partnerships.
  • Develop strategies for institutional and stakeholder engagement.
  • Deepen understanding of research management’s evolving value proposition.
  • Acquire tools to enhance sustainability and impact in international collaborations.

 

Must Take Five

Participants must complete five sessions, one from each core content area. Session titles vary from meeting to meeting.

Research Governance, Legal & Compliance

Explore governance structures, legal frameworks, and compliance practices necessary for managing international research collaborations. Emphasis on contracts, policies, ethical considerations, and navigating diverse legislative environments.

Research Finance & Resource Management 

Receive an overview in budgeting, financial reporting, and resource management tailored for cross-border research projects. Understand funder expectations, collaborative budgeting, and sustainability planning.

Proposal Development & Research Development 

Strengthen abilities in crafting successful proposals and diversifying funding sources. Focus on pre-award management, understanding funder requirements, and building sustainable research development ecosystems.

Communication, Cultural Intelligence & Partnership Management 

Familiarize with intercultural management, effective communication, and stakeholder engagement. Learn to foster trust, navigate cultural complexities, and build productive international partnerships.

Research Impact, Valorization & Leadership

Understand strategies for maximizing research impact, valorization opportunities, and leadership development. Address balancing academic missions with innovation and managing human capital.

 

Must Take Two
